Week #17: SUGAR

For many, sugar overload is a common occurrence this time of year.  Halloween is tomorrow, but if you're any kind of human being, that hasn't prevented you from opening a bag of candy for a quick taste test!  Okay, maybe more than one, but who's counting?  It's very important to make sure the treats on hand are fit for the trick-or-treaters, you know!  This week's cue word is a calorie free distraction...we hope.

To sweeten the challenge even more, we've got a wonderful sponsor this week!

BADGE

Neat & Tangled has generously given the design team some stamps to play with and this week's winner PLUS a random challenge participant will receive the adorable Hey Cookie stamp set!  Just in time for the upcoming holidays!  How's that for temptation to play along with us?!

Hey Cookie

Don't forget to visit the Neat & Tangled blog and store to see even more of their hand drawn, heartwarming stamp images!

Let's see what the design team has created for inspiration!  Bev, last week's winner, is joining us as our guest designer this week!

Guest Designer:  Bev
design defined:
A sweet stamped image combined with a simple sentiment and lots of white space makes a fun and easy clean and simple card.

Jen
design defined:
Using Glossy Accents (or Diamond Glaze, etc) is a simple way to add a lot of impact.

 design defined:
Add a little interest by using materials that aren't typically used on a card (e.g. cling wrap).

Rosemary
design defined:
You can create a clean & simple design with several elements by keeping them grouped together and small in scale.

Tracey
  design defined:
By trimming an embossed image from cardstock, you can add patterned paper as a background and they will not compete with one another.

Ardyth
design defined:
A white card base and a very narrow mat give this large focal point lots of breathing room.

Now go have fun and don't forget to link up your SUGAR creations by Sunday at noon (CST)!

Week #16: WILD

Isn't it interesting how one word brings a variety of things to mind?  For the most part, the previous cue words seem to be triggering literal translations.  This week, allow your mind to "run wild" and see where it wanders after reading the cue word!  As you'll see, the design team has a variety of ideas for this word!

Vicky, last week's winner, is joining us as our guest designer!

Guest Designer:  Vicky

 design defined:
A classic, centred image coloured with watercolour crayons & markers and pepped up a little with some fun elements creates a CAS design.

Ardyth
design defined:
Be brave and hand draw your own simple images!

Jen
design defined:
Applying the Rule of Three helps to keep a design balanced.

design defined:
Sometimes the perfect embellishment is no embellishment.

Rosemary
design defined:
Using papers that have a collage look to them already add interest, but no bulk to your design which helps keep things simple.

design defined:
One single die cut with pops of colour add interest without excessive bulk.

Week #15: NIGHT

Are you scared of the dark?  Do you peek under your bed before you turn out the lights?  Do you turn out the lights and then take a running leap into bed, trying to jump over the hands that just might reach up and grab your foot?  Despite the tradition of telling ghost stories and talking about all the frightening things that lurk in the dark, there are lots of beautiful things in the night too.  Take this week's cue word either way!  Just don't frighten those of us that happen to be leery of the darkness!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The design team has created some wonderful cards for inspiration and Amy, last week's winner, is joining us as our guest designer!

Guest DesignerAmy
design defined:
A few elements "popped" off your card add so much dimension to a CAS design.

Tracey
design defined:
A few die cuts with some simple stamping keep the card design clean.

Ardyth
design defined:
Tone on tone sponging adds texture and interest without distracting from the focal image.

Jen
design defined:
A dark card base can add drama to a simple design.

design defined:
Adding embellishments that complement the focal image brings everything together on a CAS design.

Rosemary
design defined:
A black and white color scheme keeps this potentially busy design simple.

Week #14: Weekly Winners!

It's time to announce our Weekly Winner and Honorable Mentions!

Ardyth had the honor of selecting the Winner for Week #14 and here is the card that she selected:

Winner: Vicky
All the little details of Vicky's CAS card make it amazing! The double stamping to achieve a shadowed dimensional effect, the multiple methods of 'thumping' to achieve the glorious autumn colours and even the flecks in the cardstock contribute to make this one layer card a real stunner!

Congratulations, Vicky!

Week #14: LEAF

How about some foliage this week?  In some parts of the world, it's autumn and the trees are displaying a wonderful array of colors!  In other parts, things are green as ever!  Wherever you live, take a moment to think about what a leaf represents for you.

**Remember, if you don't have a leaf stamp, it's not a big deal because the cue word never has to be taken literally!  Maybe "leaf" makes you think of flowers, spring, growth, nature, birds, etc!  There are endless possibilities with this!  The cue word is simply a springboard into your creativity!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The design team has created some wonderful cards for inspiration and Bridget, last week's winner, is joining us as our guest designer!

Guest Designer:  Bridget
design defined:
An embossed background is a great way to add interest to a CAS card without losing all that clean, crisp white space!

Rosemary
design defined:
A simple white on white design can be taken to the next level by the using die cut elements in a fun way.

Tracey
design defined:
By using gradient colour, you can add depth to your one layer CAS design.

Ardyth
design defined:
Using unexpected items (a leaf as a stamp) can yield surprising and beautiful results!

Jen
design defined:
When using a busy focal point, keep the rest of the card super simple.

design defined:
By placing the focal point off center, you can easily add interest to your card.
