It's time for a refresher coarse on CAS design here at CASology since every now and then it's good to go back and review the basics! That's why, this week, we've chosen a different kind of cue word than you've had before! Up for the challenge? The design team put forth extra effort this week and you'll find that the cards posted here on the challenge blog are only the beginning of what they have to show you! Be sure and visit each of their blogs to find "the rest of the story!"
Before we show you their first creations, we want to introduce to you a brand new sponsor:
My Creative Classroom is
an online arts and crafts learning center. Our interactive and in-depth
courses are instructor led and filled with wonderful projects and
techniques to help you get the most out of your supplies.
Out Spring 2014 Semester is just beginning and will offer well over 100 courses. Along with our Traditional Instructor-led Workshop Classes we have also added Self-Paced Workshops. We've recently added more classes to our Library, which offers retired classes at 40%-50% off regular price.
We have opened our brand new challenge blog, My Creative Life 2014 ,
which will issue challenges to help us use all of our supplies this
year. Along with that is the companion course with the same title, which
is FREE to our newsletter subscribers. Come join in on the fun and test drive MCC.
We are excited to be sponsoring CASology. You can view our entire class list on our website at My Creative Classroom. You can also view classes on our Facebook Page too! One lucky winner will receive a free seat to a Workshop class of their choice.....Good Luck!
Start your new year off by learning something new! Go take a look at what they have to offer!
Now let's take a look at what the design team and this week's guest designer created for inspiration!
Use contrast in fonts and color to add interest to a CAS design.
design defined:
Minimal layers, open white space, minimal embellishments = clean and simple!

One layer cards with just lots of open space, one pop of color,
and minimal embellishments, are very CAS!

ReplyDeleteAs always, fabulous DT inspiration...
ReplyDeleteWoot woot, Miss Amy Tsuruta! Thanks for the inspiration; I was able to create when I saw this cue card. Thank you to Amy and the CAS-ology team for lovely inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThe contrast cards by the Design team are super!
ReplyDeletethis is such a unique idea, I love it. I am so going to hunt for a non CAS card of mine to CASe!! Thanks for the inspiration, all great DT cards. Time to create!
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that in card #3 one is advised to keep patterned paper to a minimum, and then in card #9 two thirds of the card is nothing but busy patterned paper, elaborate stitching, and a busy pattern. It can be a little confusing to the reader as to what is considered CAS and what is not.
ReplyDeleteHi, Amy!
DeleteI can see why you are concerned! Each "design defined" is for the card above it. Please visit May's blog for explanation. There are many opinions as to what the limits of CAS design are. Although the DT strives to keep all designs within the same guidelines, we definitely don't feel we are CAS experts and may unintentionally vary a CAS design from time to time. :) This blog is simply here for learning from each other! I hope you will enter a CAS card this week too! We'd love to have you join us!
Do you mean you want us to make cards that incorporate contrast or do you want us to create 2 cards, 1 CAS and another not CAS?
ReplyDeleteHi, Jackie!
DeleteJust make cards the incorporate contrast (or any interpretation of contrast you may think of...)! We're not requiring anyone to make two cards this week! Promise! :)
Thanks for the explanation Melissa!
DeleteGreat challenge and wonderful DT inspiration! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis was my first time playing along and it was really fun to see all the DT's take on the challenge! Thanks for a fun challenge!
