How did you get into card making?
I
held my 14 year old's 11th birthday party at our local Paper Source,
and was hooked at once. It took me a while to discover clear stamps,
internet shopping, challenges and blogging. Once I started making
card-making friends online, I was in it for life.
I am drawn to
clean and simple designs. I find them most visually appealing. I like
the lack of clutter and the clean lines. As I look around at my home, I
see some of those same elements in the style of our furnishings.
Clutter in my house drives me nuts, so I guess it is not surprising that
I like an uncluttered card.
Do
what makes you happy and what looks good to you. Look for designers to
emulate whose style speaks to you. Don't worry too much about how to
label what you do and don't worry if every single card you make has a
different style! Enjoy card-making as a hobby and just see where each
card takes you.
Hmmm....are you sure you want to know more?! My long-suffering blog readers know this,
but I get most of my good card ideas when I am working out, especially
in spin class. Shocking, I know! I think it is something about all that blood pumping
around my body and into my brain & the need to find a mental happy place amid the torture of the task at hand. I daydream on my bike about the cards
I am going to make when I get home! Some of them actually turn out just
like I planned. Others, not so much.
I live in a small beach town just north of San Diego with my husband, two teenaged daughters, a puppy and a pet rat. I spend a lot of time in the car driving my girls around town and watching them play sports. When I am not doing the 'mom thing' I like to craft, read, exercise and just enjoy the outdoors.

Great interview, Joyce, and you know I love that picture! I didn't know your ideas came from spinning and that helps explain why you sometimes post 57 cards at a time!! I would try that idea except my spinner is broken now. You're smart to keep yours oiled and working!! It's so great having you on the DT here! Hugs, Darnell

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and fabulous interview, Joyce ... and such a great photo! I'll now imagine all the hard work you've gone through on your bike to bring us your gorgeous creations! Anita :)
ReplyDeleteGreat interview Joyce . Some day I will spin like you ...maybe ! I think that is wonderful that you get that out of the way then your are fee to craft.
ReplyDeleteGreat interview, Joyce! I agree about having life imitate card style...I also like uncluttered spaces!
ReplyDeleteGreat interview, Joyce! Loved learning more about you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I enjoyed getting to know you :)
ReplyDeleteYou are delightful!! Love that you get ideas while in your Spin classes!!
ReplyDeleteJoyce...I always love reading about where you get your cad inspiration from and you have the sweetest family too.
ReplyDeleteJoyce, what a fabulous interview, and learning where you draw your inspiration is amazing! I don't take spin classes (yet...on the agenda), but my husband races and often, when I'm standing on the sidelines, cheering him on or performing my gig as a cycling commissaire, a creative spark is charged. Bikes and cards...something we have in common. Your cards = always amazing, always inspiring!!

ReplyDeleteHi Joyce, Great to know you a little better, and you give great advice. Thank you for your lovely cards and sharing each week :D x
ReplyDeleteJoyce, you are the type of person that if you lived next to me we would be in each other's houses all the time. Too bad a few thousand miles and an international border separate us!
ReplyDeleteHello Joyce nice to meet you! Thank you for the advice. Everyone I know is taking a spin class. I need to try it. It seems just as addictive as card making!
