This week, we're heading off on a new journey with a brand new cue word: BIRD! The past few weeks, a few of you mentioned that you didn't know how you were going to go about creating a card when you didn't really have an image for the cue word. Guess what? That's never going to be a problem again because the cue word is simply a starting point for your creative thought process! For example, this week the word is "bird." At first, you may think, "Boy, I don't know if I own a bird image!" Have no fear! What else does "bird" make you think of? Freedom? Flying? A song? You don't have to limit yourself to the literal word if you don't have a specific image each week! Go with your creative instinct and let it flow! We're not here to limit your creativity, but to encourage it to reach new levels! We do have some general guidelines that define Clean & Simple design in general (see the Helpful Hints tab), but other than that, we're pretty open minded!

If you get stuck for ideas, don't forget sketch challenges. Some sketches are CAS in design, but it is relatively easy to CAS-ify even a more complicated sketch by removing layers and simplifying embellishments.

I wanted to show you this week that a CAS card does not have to be white. I didn't use any white but I allowed my one layer focal panel to have lots of open space. The card itself can be put together easily, but for me it is the design process that is more time consuming.

Small details (the 'shadow' on the egg, the sparkly yolk and the rounded corners) can add interest to a card without making it too busy!

A simple way to add interest is to add dimension - the bird cages are adhered at 3 different heights.
